SHARPER MIND. STRONGER PERFORMANCE.

Emma Bacchus

Mental Performance Consultant

Sport has always been a significant part of my life. I grew up playing competitive volleyball and went on to compete at the NCAA level with the University of Puget Sound. My experiences as both an athlete and coach sparked my interest in the mental side of performance and the role that confidence, focus, resilience, and preparation can play in sport.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology with an emphasis in neuroscience and have completed a Master of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta, in health/sport psychology.

I am now beginning a Master of Counselling, continuing to expand my knowledge and skills in supporting individuals across both performance and wellbeing contexts.

Alongside my academic work, I have continued to coach competitive volleyball and work directly with athletes and teams in mental performance.

My experiences as an athlete, coach, researcher, and mental performance practitioner ultimately led me to create The Mental Edge, a space dedicated to helping athletes strengthen the mental skills that support their performance, confidence, resilience, and overall experience in sport.

MENTAL PERFORMANCE
IN ACTION

I currently work with athletes and teams across a range of sports and competitive levels, including MacEwan Griffins Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, NAIT Golf and Badminton, and University of Alberta Golf.

My work focuses on practical mental performance skills that support confidence, focus, communication, resilience, and performing under pressure.

Each session is tailored to the athletes, team, and demands of their sport, with an emphasis on strategies they can actually apply in training and competition.

Why Mental Performance

Mental performance is about developing the skills to navigate the mental demands of sport. Just like physical and technical skills, confidence, focus, emotional regulation, resilience, and responses to pressure can be developed through intentional practice. Mental performance training gives athletes practical tools to better understand themselves, respond effectively to challenges, and perform with greater consistency in both training and competition.
